Bunyaad Foundation, our implementation partner organized a 3 hour long workshop with a group of 40 girl students, at India International Center on 3rd July 2015. Hunar is a project aimed at skilling and empowering women and thereafter leading them to employment in  IT and Retail sector. Apart from technical skills, this project is equipped with workshops on enhancing communication skills and increasing awareness on Financial and Legal aspects.
The main objective of the project is to build an overall personality of students who many a times come from a background which does not support basic awareness for girls. This workshop helped our students gain knowledge on laws relevant to women and on how to manage their finances post placement.
The whole activity was a good experience for all students who participated actively throughout. Sambhava Foundation look forward to such activities in future.

Hunar- Workshop on “Communication, Financial Literacy and Legal Awareness”

Bunyaad Foundation organized a workshop under the project “Hunar- Empowering Women through Skills” on 16th March 2015 at India International Center. The workshop focused on “Communication, Financial Literacy and Legal Awareness”. Two of our batches undergoing training, comprising of almost 40 students participated in the event.

The workshop was organized keeping in mind the needs and requirement of girls who are about to join the workforce, hence all the important 3 components were included in the session.

Financial literacy is an important tool for youths so that they know the importance of saving money and investing profitably. Having a good sound knowledge of legal aspects holds importance for youths especially girls. Hence, Legal and financial experts were invited to give lecture and disseminate information with the help of activities and power point presentation. This made it easily understandable for all students.

Communication is equally important both in personnel and professional life. Tips were given on how to improve communication skills effectively which in turn can increase the chances of getting better jobs in the market.

All the three sessions were enjoyed by the students who also directed their queries to the experts..
The workshop ended with feedback session conducted by Sambhava Foundation.

"The only disability in life is bad attitude hence I am not disable" - Hari Devi

Hari Devi, 25 years old is a resident of New Delhi. She grew up in a very supportive environment in between friends and family. Born as a non- disabled girl, she was pampered by her siblings in all possible ways.  At the age of 3 years, she suffered from high fever and was detected with Polio Virus which resulted in making her body dysfunctional below the waist.  This was indeed shattering news for her family. As advised by doctors she had to undergo surgery three times to regain some movements in her lower limb.  Thereafter, she was recommended to wear leg brace on a daily basis. Initially, she resisted it strongly as it was making her feel and appear different from others. But gradually realized that this was the only way she could move independently.

Her family decided to keep her at home because they were concerned about her mobility. However, her keen interest towards studies made her parents change their mind. Her parents were very proud of her when she successfully completed her higher secondary from Kendriya Vidyalya, R. K Puram with good grades. She still recalls that moment when during sports period, she fell down due to imbalance and none of her friends turned up for her help instead made fun of her and imitated the way she walked.  This was the first incident when she realized that life is going to be really tough and being strong is the only option left for her. But such incidents didn’t dampen her high spirits.

One day, she received a call from SARTHAK about a training program under the project called “Koshish” implemented by SAMBHAVA Foundation and got herself enrolled in the training program. Right from the beginning she was very determined, full of life and had a strong desire to become financially independent and support her family like her brothers did.  Gradually, she was often found expressing her opinions and views very confidently to others. Indeed her vibrant smile and motivational ideas inspired and influenced lives of many girls.  Over the period of time, the training really promoted her in developing more self confidence in speaking English language. She got to know about the existing job opportunities in corporate sector. She realized that the 3 months of training was instrumental in grooming her, specifically in body language, dressing style and all the relevant skills and attitude to crack the interview.

She gave her first interview at Hatsun – A retail outlet for the profile of Sales Executive. The panel got very impressed by her confidence and enthusiasm towards life. Once again she proved “Where there is Will, there is a Way”!!

The ceremony also had dance and song performances by the students. Also, a short video was prepared depicting the journey of all in students in Sarthak. Personal experiences were shared by the girls which were heartwarming.

“Before joining Sarthak, I was very introvert and was afraid of stepping out of the house. I was always thinking about being judged by people around me. It was rather a courageous act for me to join Sarthak, it changed me completely. Now I am more confident and able to converse properly. I am not afraid of people’s judgmental attitude and most of all I can travel to different places all on my own. Sarthak not only helped me being economically independent but also changed my personality. Now I have a new approach, a confident approach to this world. Most of all I thank Sambhava Foundation, for linking me to this program, for selecting and providing me financial and moral support to pursue this training. it give me immense pleasure to announce that today I am working with quicker.com and earning a monthly salary of INR 9,500. ”
                                                                                 -  Jyoti Gola (Orthopedically Handicap)

“Because of this Training program, I am now able to identify my abilities and use them effectively. I am open to learning new things and face challenges. I have developed and grown as a person. I really thank Sambhava and Sarthak for choosing me and believing in me despite my shortcomings. I am really happy and proud to tell you that now I am also an earning member of my family.”
                                                                                   -  Anjali Rajput (Hearing Impaired)

It was real proud moment for Sambhava Foundation, our girls showed real determination and courage. These girls who were once dependent on their family are now self dependent, instead they are adding on to the family income. It gives us immense pleasure that our efforts were brought to the shore of success. Sambhava hopes to continue making similar efforts in future.

The workshop consisted of activities, videos, motivational talks and learning lesson on English by using very simple hands on tips that can help them improvise their English speaking skills. Sharing some of the feedback comments of our students:

“Extremely friendly atmosphere helped us share our anxieties and problems and also find appropriate solutions for them.”

“I am motivated and inspired to work hard towards achieving my goal. This session made me realize that it’s the attitude that makes a man disable in the real sense. Bringing in right and positive attitude will definitely lead to success and contentment”

“This activity was really helpful in learning English in a very effective manner. Tips that were provided by Sir were easy and also do not require extra time. It is like a daily routine for us like eating and sleeping. Now on wards all I need to do is incorporate some simple habits in life which will automatically improvise my English. I am really happy about it.”

Students appreciated for being given plenty of opportunities during the session to practice out the methods immediately. This really helped them to clarify their doubts there & then.

Sambhava Foundation is really happy with the success of the workshop which was not only well received by the students but also brought in positive change in attitude of our beneficiaries.
